Ash + Tom

It's no secret how much I love small weddings and elopements, I think it's the one positive that came out of the Covid Pandemic, that couples realised the beauty of going small, and doing what feels right for them on their wedding day. Whilst with legalities, elopements in England can be a little bit tricky, Cote How in the Lake District has made it incredibly easy for couples to have a beautiful legal ceremony, and a little bit of adventure, in a picturesque, serene and tranquil mountainous landscape.

Ash + Tom love the Lakes, and regularly visit, so it was really important to them to get married somewhere that had to so much significance to them both. It also felt most natural to them to have the ceremony be just the two of them, and embarking on a little adventure to Rydal caves, being in nature, just by themselves at one of their favourite places. They did incorporate their closest family and their two children, by having them help them get ready. The day started in Skelwith Bridge, with a LOT of rain, they didn't let it dampen their spirits though, as their families prepared them for the ceremony. As we set up for the first look and some sentimental letter reading, the rain cleared into a beautiful mist.

Ash + Tom then headed off privately together to Cote How, where they were greeted with a beautiful calm. Their ceremony was beautifully intimate, and after a glass of champagne we ventured up to Rydal caves. We had the most beautiful, soft light and crisp conditions, for a brisk hike in wedding outfits, sparkles, and docs. After the caves, we met their family members at their little Lake District cottage for a couple of family portraits, and then they headed off to the pub to really get the celebrations going. What I loved about Ash + Tom's wedding was how they prioritised what was really important to them - a private ceremony, in a place so significant to them both, incorporating their boys in by having their handwriting embroidered on Ash's veil, and then meeting their friends and family afterwards. It was absolutely perfect for them both, and a testament to staying true to yourselves when planning your wedding.
