Lauren + Alex

The Mount Without in Bristol, is without a doubt, one of the most spectacular and unique wedding venues in the UK. Set within the building of one of the UK's oldest churches, St Michael's on the Mount was transformed a few years ago, into this incredible wedding and events space. It's been a few years since I've photographed at The Mount Without, and it was an absolute joy to be back for Lauren + Alex's beautiful wedding.

Both brides got ready separately at their families homes, with Alex and her friends and Lauren and her bridesmaids and bridesman. Alex was helped to get ready by her mum and aunty, who had actually helped to make her outfit, having bought part of it from the high street, and part then made and customised, for the ultimate personal touch. Lauren was also helped into her dress by her mum, her puff sleeves and low back looked amazing! Both brides actually travelled to the venue together, but without seeing each other, with Alex and her family on the top deck of the bus, and Lauren and her family on the bottom. Excitement and nerves were at a high, knowing they were so close to each other on the way to the venue, but still both sight unseen.

At The Mount Without, Jenna from Tulip and Cactus florist had beautified the space even more, with florals that looked organically grown there. Tara the Celebrant led a beautifully personal and emotional ceremony. Telling the story of the couple, how they met, and how we all ended up in this incredible venue, and they each exchanged personal vows, and rings, delivered by their nephew Ozzie. Their love for each other, and their joy at being married was so apparent, and after a short drinks reception outside, we all head back inside the Mount Without, for a poignant speech from Alex's dad, who touched on how just ten years ago, marriages between queer couples were made legal. It's a fact that most of us are aware of, but seeing the results in action and realising just how recent history that is, was definitely touching. Lauren's speech then followed, with all of her bridesmaids then also making beautifully touching speeches too!

After all the formalities, it was clear that having a good party was a huge priority for these two, with the band getting going shortly after the dinner service. They opted to have a casual first dance, instead of anything being announced, they just wanted to have a dance when the band started, and everyone quickly followed suit, with it being a packed dance floor for the rest of the night!

It was amazing to photograph this one - totally action packed, full of love and joy, and beautiful to be a part of, at a firm favourite of a wedding venue!
